Using a generic household extension cord with a submerged pond pump is a safety risk; standard indoor cords are not rated for the moisture levels, UV exposure, or continuous load of an outdoor pump application. How to Use
Unplug the pump before connecting the extension cord. Align and firmly connect the extension cord's female connector to the pump's male lead connector until it clicks or seats fully. Route the joined cord out of the water and to the power source. Keep all connections above the waterline and in a sheltered position away from direct rainfall where possible. Do not use additional extension cords in series beyond the rated total cord length for the pump.
