Clean EPDM Liner Surfaces for Maximum Tape Adhesion
Aquascape EPDM Surface Prep (946 mL / 1 qt) is a solvent-based cleaning solution designed to prepare EPDM pond liner surfaces before applying butyl rubber seam tape, cover tape, or primer. It removes surface oils, mould release compounds, organic residue, and other contaminants that prevent tape adhesives from bonding directly to the EPDM rubber surface.
The Critical First Step in Any EPDM Seaming or Repair Job
EPDM rubber is manufactured with mould release compounds on its surface that are nearly invisible but significantly reduce adhesive bond strength if not removed before taping. Even on liner that has been installed for some time, algae films, sunscreen residue from handling, and atmospheric oils accumulate on the surface. Surface Prep removes these contaminants reliably, ensuring that the subsequent primer and tape achieve the full bond strength the butyl adhesive is rated for.

How to Use
Apply Surface Prep to a clean cloth and wipe the EPDM liner surface thoroughly in the seam area, covering a width at least 2.5 cm (1 in) wider on each side than the tape that will be applied. Use a fresh cloth section for each pass to avoid redepositing the dissolved contaminants. Allow the treated surface to dry completely before applying primer (approximately five to ten minutes at 20°C / 68°F). Do not touch the prepared surface with bare hands after cleaning, as skin oils will recontaminate the area. Work in a ventilated area and avoid breathing solvent fumes.
