Copper Ion Water Treatment

The Atlantic Water Gardens original Triton ionizer replacement anode is the consumable copper electrode for the original Triton pond ionizer system. The Triton ionizer works by releasing copper ions into the pond water at low concentration — suppressing algae growth, reducing string algae and suspended green water algae without the use of chemical algaecides. The copper anode is the active electrode that releases these ions and is consumed slowly over a full season of operation. When the anode diminishes to a minimum size, the unit loses effectiveness and the anode must be replaced.

How Ionization Works

A low-voltage current passes between the ionizer's electrodes — releasing copper ions into the water at trace concentrations below levels harmful to fish and aquatic plants but effective at suppressing algae growth. Copper-ion treatment is a chemical-free, low-maintenance alternative to liquid or granular algaecides, and the low operating cost of anode replacement makes it economical over multiple seasons.

Replacement Schedule

In a typical pond, the original Triton anode lasts approximately one full season (May to October in Canadian climates). Inspect the anode monthly — when it has worn to approximately 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) in any dimension, replacement before the next season ensures uninterrupted ionization effectiveness.
